Nelson Semedo has said tha..t even the Sheffield United players couldn’t understand some of the checks being made by officials yesterday, including for the penalty award against Wolves right at the end.

Wanderers crashed to a 2-1 defeat at Bramall Lane, with the Blades picking up their first win of the season in the Premier League.

There was a controversial end to the game, with referee Robert Jones awarding a penalty for an apparent foul by Fabio Silva, however, replays showed George Baldock was already going to ground.

It was very similar to the decision that went against Hwang Hee-chan the weekend before against Newcastle United.Wolverhampton Wanderers v Newcastle United - Premier League

Oliver Norwood scored the penalty and the game ended, leaving Fabio Silva devastated. The striker will now need the support of the Molineux faithful to come through what is undoubtedly a tough moment for him.

The decision, which was slammed by Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, has again placed refereeing standards under the microscope, and Semedo has issued a pretty damning verdict of the officials from yesterday…

It is now the third time Wolves have been stung by a terrible decision this season.

There was also the handball by Joao Gomes against Luton Town, but some have suggested that was the correct decision in law.

But Wolves are getting done over too often, and the frustration from £29 million man Semedo post-match was completely understandable.

He said (Wolves official): “Every single week we have to take bad decisions from referees and VAR, they have everything they need, but they keep committing errors. Just in the second-half they checked three penalties, I don’t know from where. Even the players from Sheffield didn’t know where they came from.”

The game was very stop-start, hence why there was so much injury time at the end.

Wolves’ season is being spoiled by officials

First and foremost, Wolves were poor yesterday against Sheffield United and arguably didn’t deserve anything from the game.

But the level of officiating has been scandalous and it has been that way since the start of the season.

Wolves could easily be a few places higher and points better off in the Premier League table had there been at least some competence.

It is absolutely incredible that Wolves are consistently on the end of such terrible decisions. And Gary O’Neil has actually done a very good job of keeping himself calm in recent post-match interviews
