Next Bristol City manager: Ipswich Town, West Ham figure now favourite
Bristol City’s search for a head coach enters its second week as they seek a replacement for Nigel Pearson.
Pearson was relieved of his duties on Sunday, November 29 and since then a lot has gone on. Chairman Jon Lansdown and Brian Tinnion have said they are looking for a head coach rather than a manager, and that has narrowed the list down.
Curtis Fleming in his first game in charge oversaw a 1-0 win against basement outfit Sheffield Wednesday. Barry Bannan was sent off for the Owls after a last-ditch challenge, and then Rob Dickie scored the only goal of the game, which saw him included in the official Championship team of the week.
As City fans watched their side claim victory, a rumoured managerial target outlined his stance on the reports. Oxford United manager Liam Manning is said to be a strong candidate for the vacancy, however he confirmed that no approach from City had been made for his services. It doesn’t rule out the possibility of the Robins making a move for him, but could suggest that their search is ongoing and that other candidates are being considered.
Frank Lampard is the most high-profile name on the list, and his potential appointment was discussed by the Sky Sports panel on Saturday. Paul Merson likened Bristol City to Birmingham City after it was suggested Lampard was a front-runner, however comments from Lansdown, and other local media outlets suggest the England legend is not in the running.
A new name has emerged however, and whilst he is not one of the firm favourites he has at least entered the top five. Will Still, manager of Reims who are currently fourth in Ligue One is one of the new names on the list.
Flick through to see who is now the front-runners for the role according to the markets.
