Kieran McKenna on the match between Rotherham United and Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna says his side will do everything in their power to win tonight’s rescheduled game at Rotherham for the club’s fans.
The initial match was scrapped just three hours before kick-off last month due to bad weather, with thousands of fans braving the conditions and already well on their way to the New York Stadium.
And as Town get ready to make the trip again for an 8pm clash live on Sky Sports tonight, McKenna praised the club’s huge travelling support
“It’s everyone together and it’s been a massive part of the good away record that we’ve had,” he enthused.
“We’re going to need that again, it’s so important for us – and we appreciate that there’s going to be some supporters making the journey twice.
“As much as that’s frustrating for us, it’s more so for them, and we’ll do everything we can to show the resilience and the character and the quality that we’ll need to hopefully get a result that they can enjoy.”
While the Millers are 22nd in the Championship table and have a terrible away record, they’ve only lost twice at home in seven matches this season.
They’ve beaten Coventry and Norwich at the New York Stadium, plus taken points from high-flying Preston and all-action Blackburn.
And McKenna says he’s expecting an intense, physical challenge tonight.
“We’ve prepped the game twice now, so we’ve had a really good look at them and we think their strengths are clear,” he explained.
“They’re a really strong team at home, that was apparent going into when we were going to play them last time, they were competitive and picking up points in pretty much every home game.
“And since the break they’ve beaten Coventry and they got a draw on Saturday against QPR.
“We know it’s a really tough place to go, we know they like to make games really physical, really intense at their stadium and we know we’re going to have to stand up to that and we’re going to have to play really well to come out on top.
