Ange Postecoglou has confirmed James Maddison will miss Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clashes with Wolves and Aston Villa through injury.

The playmaker picked up an ankle injury in Spurs’ 4-1 defeat to Chelsea last Monday, but he was still named in the England squad by Gareth Southgate for the November internationals. He has since been withdrawn as tests showed that the injury is much worse than first feared and he will be out for several weeks, possibly until the New Year.

He joins Micky Van de Ven on the sidelines after the centre-back suffered a hamstring injury in the home loss to Chelsea. Richarlison will also miss the match against Villa after undergoing surgery, while Christian Romero is suspended after picking up a red card for a dangerous tackle on Monday.

“We’ve got a couple of suspensions. Ben Davies is back and available. Pedro [Porro] is fine, he’s been training all week.”

Wolves hosts Spurs on Saturday (12.30pm kick-off) while Villa play them after the forthcoming international break on November 26 (2pm kick-off).
