The Golden Nuggets are one sleep away from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

49ers Notes: Game statuses, Aaron Banks’ timeline, and a likely Verrett reunion

“There is some additional practice squad news. Shanahan said that Jason Verrett, who reportedly worked out for the team after being cut from the Texans’ practice squad, could be signed to the 49ers’ practice squad. He stated specifically that he wants to sign him.

He said there is nothing official yet on that end, but that “if we’ve got a chance, we’d love to get him in here.”

Shanahan also mentioned that wide receiver Danny Gray, who is on injured reserve, is “good to go” and is in the same situation as the three potentially returning players.”

“They’re coming along well,” Shanahan told reporters after Friday’s practice. “They’ve had two good weeks. It’s nice to have them at practice. It’s been nice having them this week. They’ve got another week left. Unfortunately, that week isn’t the best week, being a Thursday night game. So yesterday was their main full-speed practice, but still got another week with them.”

49ers believe their slice of ‘humble pie’ will help Sunday vs. Buccaneers (paywall)

“I think we learned our lesson,” pass rusher Nick Bosa said. “I don’t think we got complacent or anything. But it is human nature to think about your opponent … what strengths and weaknesses they might have. We have to not so much look at our opponent, but look at ourselves and make sure we’re playing as good as we can.”

Branch: 49ers’ Brock Purdy will have full-circle moment Sunday against Bucs (paywall)

Purdy, now far more established, indicated that it can be more difficult to maintain the same level of first-start desperation for a 17-game grind. He pointed to the 49ers’ recent three-game losing streak, during which he committed six turnovers, to illustrate his point.

“I’m still learning with my mindset throughout the season,” Purdy said. “It’s a long season. The three games where we lost, it’s like sort of reminding myself that you’ve got to play with that chip on your shoulder and be hungry. Every single game, you have to prove to yourself that you’re supposed to be here.”

This week, the 49ers reviewed last season’s blowout to prepare for Sunday’s meeting with Tampa Bay. Purdy studied the game from an X’s-and-O’s perspective, but he also couldn’t help recalling the emotion he felt when he was trying to make a name for himself, an unknown guy eager to prove he could be The Guy.
