It’s going to take a “big push” according to Dan Bardell.
The 30-year-old posted images of himself on Twitter in action for Villa under-21s on 13 November after recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up an injury against Liverpool in May.
The Spanish left-back played 63 minutes in a clash with Swansea City in the Premier League Cup as he continues to work his way back to full fitness in a bid to compete for a place in the first team with the French international.
Bardell believes the return of Moreno will hand Unai Emery the opportunity to give Digne a rest after he has played the majority of games so far this season.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “It will be great to have Moreno back because he was a really big reason as to why Villa managed to end the season so well, finish in the top seven and get into Europe.
“At the time we signed him, myself included, I think a lot of people were like ‘a left-back, surely there’s other priorities in the squad’. But Emery identified him as a player he likes, and he wanted to bring him in.
“He came in and him and Ramsey on that left-hand side were a massive reason why Villa qualified for Europe and Villa haven’t had that all season. But we haven’t really suffered for it is the strange thing.
“I think it’s going to take a big push from him to get his place back because Lucas Digne’s been pretty consistent and pretty good over the past month or two.
“The good thing is that with all the games Villa have, it’s a chance to bring Moreno in for the European games at first and give Lucas Digne a chance to have a rest because him and McGinn are the two who haven’t had any rest time throughout the season.
“It will be nice to have that other option at left-back because it’s great to have two high-quality players in that position pushing each other.”
