Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud has been huge for the Houston Texans this season, and as a result, the Texans currently hold a 6-5 record.
The Texans, who were expected to barely improve on last season’s 3-13-1 record, are well ahead of schedule right now, and they have a real shot at claiming a Wild Card spot in the playoffs.
On Sunday, Stroud was at it again, leading Houston back from a late 24-14 deficit against the Jacksonville Jaguars to have a shot at winning before Matt Ammendola missed a 58-yard field goal that would’ve forced overtime.
Nick Wright said on his podcast “What’s Wright?” that Stroud could end up being better than Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence.
Lawrence is himself one of the NFL’s rising young signal-callers, and he has guided the Jaguars to an 8-3 record this season, even though his numbers are somewhat down compared to last season.
Through 11 games, Stroud has thrown for 3,266 yards, 19 touchdowns, and just five interceptions while putting up a 100.8 passer rating, and he is outperforming Lawrence, who is in his third season, in each of those categories.
Even better, he has made young wide receivers Tank Dell and Nico Collins look like studs this year.
With Stroud already looking like a Pro Bowler, the Texans now appear to have the type of immediate future no one could’ve imagined as recently as August.
If he, Dell, and Collins continue on their current trajectory, that future could take the team to places it has never gone before in its 22 seasons of NFL existence.
