Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams has not only declined as a football player this season, but he’s also dug himself a hole with many of the league’s fans due to his conduct in an ongoing feud between him and Jets reporter Connor Hughes.
Hughes had covered him during Adams’ time with the Jets, and Adams totally crossed the line in the feud, making things way too personal in the process.
After Hughes posted a clip of Adams getting beat for a touchdown to Twitter with the caption “yikes”, Adams thought it was a smart idea to post a picture of Hughes and his wife with the same caption.
Needless to say, that was not, in fact, a smart idea. You can’t go after the spouse of pretty much anyone in any situation, let alone a spouse that is completely irrelevant to the situation. Adams received instant blowback, and was told take the post down by the Seahawks.
According to Pro Football Talk, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was asked about the situation on Wednesday.
“We already addressed it with him,” Carroll said. “I don’t know if it was a great decision. I’m not sure about the details of it, but I know that he realized that he needed to take it down. We don’t want to be part of that.”
The problem is, Adams had a chance to try to make things right on Wednesday. Instead, he doubled down with an absurd comment that really reflects poorly on his character.
“It’s always the athlete that crossed the line when he responds,” Adams said. “But at the end of the day, disrespect is disrespect, however you want to take it. So I responded. I knew when I did hit that tweet, I wasn’t in it to win it. At the end of the day it was to get him to understand, ‘Leave me the hell alone. . . . When others go low, I go lower.”
