Ex-Milwaukee Brewers reliever Will Smith has signed a contract for the 2024 season.  The veteran southpaw will be heading back to Kansas City in which he initially made his MLB debut with the Royals in 2012.  His salary next year will be a modest $5.00 MM and before even playing a game he already is going to be a highly coveted trade target.

Jeff Passan pointed out during the announcement of Will Smith signing with the Royals that he has won a World Series ring each of the past three seasons.  He did this with three different teams (Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, and Texas Rangers) and is the only player in MLB history to do this.

Kansas City is not expected to compete for the World Series trophy in 2024.  This means that there is a very good chance that Will Smith will be traded next summer.  Given his history he should draw plenty of interest from teams.

On social media most fans were quick to realize that he likely will be traded at some point next summer.  Not everyone picked up on this however and some fans even played along with the fact that the Royals are destined to win the 2024 World Series.
