Manager Media Availability at the 2023 MLB Winter MeetingsDo the Red Sox need to worry about losing. . . Alex Cora to free agency? This weekend, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote that “[s]everal teams have already expressed strong interest in Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who’s a free agent after the season.” Cora almost certainly won’t be going anywhere before the 2024 season, and, with all of the power he seems to wield within the organization, it’s hard to see either him wanting to leave, or the Sox brass being willing to let him go. But I suppose this is something to think about if you’re the type of person who likes to worry about things a year in advance. (Bob Nightengale, USA Today)

Both Cora and Craig Breslow were asked about whether a contract extension for the manager would be on the table, and neither seemed to consider it much of a priority. (Christopher Smith, MassLive)Manager Media Availability at the 2023 MLB Winter Meetings

Besides, with the Alex Verdugo trade, Cora no longer has to deal with the player who seemed to give him the biggest headaches in the clubhouse. And he doesn’t appear to concerned about potentially strengthening the Yankees (Adam London, NESN)

What the Sox should be concerned about right now is strengthening their own team, which still requires adding some pitching. According to one report, Craig Breslow is interested in two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell, though he prefers Jordan Montgomery or Yoshinobu Yamamoto. (Adam London, NESN)Manager Media Availability at the 2023 MLB Winter Meetings

The Red Sox reportedly also showed interest in Eduardo Rodriguez, but preferred to wait on Yamamoto and Shota Imanaga. (Christopher Smith, MassLive)
