The San Francisco 49ers keep winning on and off the gridiron this week, with Kyle Juszczyk the latest to receive his flowers.
The 49ers fullback has been named a finalist for the 2023 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award. Juszczyk, along with seven others, have been announced as the finalists Thursday by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. After each NFL franchise submitted a nomination earlier this year, the remaining field have been chosen for this year’s honor.
The Art Rooney award recognizes players who best demonstrate correct practices on the field each week.
Per an NFL press release, the award is “presented each year to an NFL player who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition”.
Kyle Juszczyk has been nominated each of the last four seasons by the 49ers, never winning the award. The 49ers have also never produced a winner in the nine years it has been distributed. Defensive lineman Calais Campbell was the recipient for the 2022 season.
Here are the other seven finalists:
Raiders DE Maxx Crosby
Chargers LB Khalil Mack
Jets LB C.J. Mosley
Ravens OL Kevin Zeitler
Cardinals S Budda Baker
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott
Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner
Kyle Juszczyk, 32, has been with the Red & Gold since 2017. He has been named to the Pro Bowl for seven consecutive seasons, looking to make 20123 eight in a row. And thanks to the 49ers’ stellar play thus far, that may just be the case come the new year.
