Max Scherzer won’t pitch again until possibly July after it was revealed by Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young that the 39-year-old underwent surgery for a herniated disk in his back.

Scherzer was originally pulled from Game 3 of the World Series due to back pain and taken off the roster altogether for the final two games of the championship showdown against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Scherzer was acquired by the in July to help with Texas’ pitching depth after it was announced fellow former New York Met Jacob deGrom was undergoing Tommy John surgery.
