With Christmas right around the corner, players across the NFL are splurging on gifts for their teammates.

Along the theme of golf, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey gifted all the 49ers offensive players, golf club bags for the holiday.

After McCaffrey gave out the gifts, quarterback Brock Purdy thanked Christian and joked,

“Financially, I wouldn’t be able to cover that right now,”

The good news is Purdy should be on the receiving end of much greater deals than his current contract in the near future.

As a face of one of the NFL’s best teams, Purdy will have the opportunity to sign many endorsement deals, like the one he already has with Alaska Airlines.

Purdy will also likely sign a larger contract extension with the 49ers, presumably closer to when his rookie deal is up.

For now, the 49ers can take advantage of Purdy’s rookie salary by signing their best players to large extensions and acquiring high-priced stars — like McCaffrey — to the team.

In most NFL locker rooms, the star quarterback gifts his teammates expensive gifts around the holidays, thanking them for their contributions this season.

San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey was the one who splurged on teammates, giving them a new PXG golf bag, a coupon for a custom golf club fitting and a bottle of tequila.

Playing at an MVP level on a seventh-round draft pick’s rookie contract, Purdy is making $870,000 this season. McCaffrey, however, knows Purdy’s bag is coming in the near future.

Christian McCaffrey’s offensive teammates were euphoric when they arrived in the locker room after practice and found his Christmas gifts to them: a custom golf bag, a certificate for fitted golf clubs, and a bottle of tequila.

“I figured they needed a pair of clubs, and to get fitted for them, too, and be able to have a set that works, I don’t know if that will do anything, but it might give everybody a little false confidence,”

“I needed some,” quarterback Brock Purdy said of the golf clubs. Seeing how Purdy is on a rookie deal paying an $870,000 salary this year, he was pleased his offensive teammates got a generous holiday gift from McCaffrey, a seventh-year pro who’s earned over $50 million. So, thank you, Christian.”

For left tackle Trent Williams, it’s his fourth set of clubs since taking up golf last summer while playing with McCaffrey, Coach Kyle Shanahan and others in Cabo San Lucas.

Whereas some quarterbacks around the NFL recently bestowed golf carts or all-terrain vehicles to their offensive linemen, Williams noted that the set of PXG clubs might cost the equivalent.
