Four teams in the NFL playoffs have never won the Super Bowl.
Buffalo has made four Super Bowl appearances. The other three – Houston, Cleveland, and Detroit – are franchises that have established winning cultures this season.
Which one of those three teams has the chance of making a run?
Houston and Cleveland will lead off the wild-card weekend. The Texans have rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, who pushed the team into the postseason with victories in the final two weeks. The Browns have Joe Flacco, who passed for 300 yards in four consecutive victories before Week 18. Flacco, of course, won Super Bowl XLVII with the Baltimore Ravens.
Detroit is trying to win its first playoff game since Jan. 5, 1992. Former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford will lead the Rams into Ford Field. It’s a full-circle moment for a franchise that is looking to break through in the NFC.
That’s not all wild-card weekend brings. Will the Dolphins knock off the Chiefs? Can the Bills keep it rolling against the Steelers? Will the Eagles end their slide against the Buccaneers? Oh, and somehow we have a Packers-Cowboys matchup.
How many favorites will get through, and will home teams dominate on wild-card weekend? Here are Sporting News’ picks for wild-card weekend:
