After the Baltimore Orioles won the most games in the American League last year, many members of the team and organization were recognized for the seasons they had.
One of the most notable pieces of hardware given out was to Brandon Hyde for being named AL Manager of the Year.
Since coming to the Orioles from the Chicago Cubs in 2018, he’s accumulated a record of 315-393, largely overseeing the rebuilding effort that the organization was putting together.
Not many people saw Baltimore’s rise coming this quickly and Hyde was a major part of it.
He’s been instrumental in continuing to develop the young players when they arrive to the MLB from their minor league affiliates.
But, another manager within their organization is starting to be viewed as a hot coaching candidate.
After winning International League Manager of the Year award with the Orioles’ Triple-A team, Norfolk Tides, there is some thought Buck Britton might get some calls for promotion within the organization, or even his own job outside of Baltimore.
“Maybe Britton gets promoted someday to the major league coaching staff. Maybe another team comes calling. He has the look of a future manager. Highly respected in the industry,” Roch Kubatko of MASN writes.
Britton was a draft pick of the Orioles in 2008 when they selected him in the 35th round. He spent seven years playing minor league baseball within their farm system, but never made it to the MLB.
He eventually joined the Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins to continue playing, before retiring in 2016.
Britton was a solid player despite never making the bigs.
He had a career slash line of .270/.326/.395 with 59 home runs and 407 RBI across 828 minor league games during his nine year professional career.
The rising star is turning into one of the most interesting managerial candidates on the market and could make the MLB at some point as the manager of his own team.
