The New York Knicks have shaken up their team in a big way these last few months. The team has traded Obi Toppin, Immanuel Quickley, and RJ Barrett since July of last year. Shaping the way for the roster that they currently have.
According to one Knicks insider, the front office feels much better about the roster that they currently have. Allegedly, because they got the ‘softies’ off the team.
The Knicks recently traded Barrett and Quickley to the Toronto Raptors in a move to acquire OG Anunoby. Since then, there is no denying that the Knicks have been an even better team on the defensive side of the court.
However, this statement comes off as incredibly disrespectful to the players the Knicks have traded. Toppin has been a solid forward for a young Indiana Pacers team that made it to the In-Season Tournament championship. Toppin is one of the league’s most energetic dunkers and provides a spark for the Pacers.
Meanwhile, both Barrett and Quickley have thrived since being traded to Toronto. As the Raptors look to navigate a retooling of their franchise, both Barrett and Quickley will be great pieces to pair with their young star, Scottie Barnes.
Although the Knicks have been a better team, it feels like a bit of a reach to call them “softies.” The Knicks have been rumored to acquire another star to pair next to Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle. Only the future will tell which team has won the trades, but this seems like a win-win for both sides at the moment.
