Almost everyone assumes the 49ers will beat the Packers easily this Saturday. But what if the 49ers lose?
The Niners are 10-point favorites over Green Bay, because they’re at home and they’re No. 1 seed while the Packers are the No. 7 seed. The Packers are a mere hurdle for the 49ers on their way to their sixth Lombardi Trophy. Yes, they’re the Super Bowl favorite as well.
Which means the 49ers absolutely can’t afford to lose this game, because if they do, someone could lose their job.
The Cowboys won the NFC East this season and Dak Prescott might win the MVP, but they just lost in the first round of the playoffs, and now people are talking about McCarthy potentially getting fired, and Prescott potentially getting traded. The Cowboys have to do something drastic after falling so short of expectations.
Imagine if the 49ers lose in the first round after convincing everyone they’re the best team in the NFL. Would you look at Kyle Shanahan differently?
If Brock Purdy throws multiple interceptions and the 49ers lose, people will talk all offseason about whether he’s fool’s gold or the real deal.
If Purdy gets injured again and the 49ers lose, people will question Kyle Shanahan’s ability to keep his quarterback healthy, considering Purdy got knocked out of the NFC Championship last year.
If the defense gives up 35 points and the 49ers lose a close game, Steve Wilks could get fired after having an excellent regular season and the 49ers could replace him with someone such as Dan Quinn.
