On Tuesday, Leicester bowed out of the EFL Cup at the third round stage against Liverpool at Anfield by a 3-1 scoreline.

Despite Kasey McAteer’s early strike, Enzo Maresca’s side failed to defend their lead and conceded three second-half goals against the Merseyside outfit.

However, Piper praised Maresca for backing his philosophy against the Premier League giants and not resorting to a long-ball game.

Piper believes that the more Maresca works with the Leicester squad, the more they will adapt to his style going forward.

“The more he works with the team, the better it is going to get in preparation, hopefully for Premier League football”, Piper said on BBC Radio Leicester.

“The amount of chances they conceded tonight for giving the ball away in the penalty area, if Liverpool were more ruthless in front of goal, it could have been a lot more.

“But he has not abandoned the way he wants to play.

“I would have been more worried and probably more critical if we came in and just started smashing it long and try to get up the pitch for the second balls

“I would have been thinking you have not really backed your own philosophy.”

On Sunday, Leicester will travel to Ewood Park to take on Jon Dahl Tomasson’s Blackburn Rovers in a return to Championship action.
