Sunday’s match against Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium is set to be a moment of celebration for Wrexham AFC Women Manager Steve Dale, who will record his 50th game in charge of the team, since taking up the role in 2021.
Speaking about the landmark, Dale said, “It’s a great achievement for myself. I’m really proud and honoured to be doing this role and I can’t thank the Club for the faith that they put in me 49 games ago – it’s a fantastic opportunity and I’ve loved the journey so far.
“We’re looking forward to build on what we have done so far and continue to gain success with the women’s team.”
Having been appointed into the role first on an interim basis, and later a permanent basis following a run of successful results, he has gone on to win the Genero Adran North title, and gain promotion via the Adran Leagues play-off final against Briton Ferry Llansawel.
Speaking about his side’s success, he stated: “I think the belief was always there, but we probably didn’t believe that it would happen so quick.
“Taking over as interim and going on the run that we did in the first season, to then go and win the league and play-off final in my second season, it was something that we worked towards.
“We had a longer-term plan to achieve it, but to achieve it in that short space of time is something that I look back on with immense pride.
“I’m really happy that we managed to get into that position because you can see that we’re thriving on it and doing really well in the league above.”
Moving onto this weekend, Dale admitted the importance of a result down in South Wales, knowing that it could potentially secure his side’s position in the top four of the Genero Adran Premier, prior to the split.
He added: “It’s important, results are important – especially at this stage of the season as we’re coming down into the business end.
“We’re in a good position so far, and we’re close to achieving that top four spot and getting over the line but we want to do it in the right way by picking up as many points as we can.
“Obviously, it is a fantastic opportunity to go and play at a great venue. It is going to be a good atmosphere, by the looks of it there will be quite a few Wrexham fans coming down too.
“It will be a great occasion, and the girls have got to have the confidence that they did against Cardiff in the second half of the Cup match earlier this month and take the game to them.”
