Tom O’Connor has urged his teammates to “keep our standards high” in order to maintain their top-three ranking.
WREXHAM are well-placed in the quest for a second successive promotion and Tom O’Connor has urged his team-mates to “keep our standards high” and not lose their place in the top-three.
Phil Parkinson’s men go into tomorrow’s Welsh derby against Newport County at Rodney Parade sitting second in League Two, two points behind leaders Stockport County with a game in hand.
With a three point advantage over fourth placed Barrow who have also played a match more, and more ground between themselves and the chasing pack, a little bit of daylight has opened up for Wrexham but O’Connor says there can be no let-up with just under half of the season to go.
“It took us a while to get going in League Two,” said O’Connor, who scored his first goal of the season in the 1-0 FA Cup third round win at rivals Shrewsbury Town earlier this month.
“But the last few months, we have got a foothold and got used to the league so hopefully we can go up another gear and push on.
“It’s a tough league and there are a lot of decent sides around the top of it.
“It is never going to be easy, especially after coming up last season, but we have got a good squad with good quality in it so we do expect to be up there.
“We are in a good position. We are up there but there’s a lot of football to be played still.
“There will be lots of teams pushing to break into that top-three so we will be looking to keep our standards high and try and stay up there come the end of the season.”
