According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, deputies responded to a shooting at a residence in the Kickapoo Marina Subdivision around 11:25 p.m. on Jan. 2. According to the third-party caller, two people had been shot at the residence.
Upon arrival, detectives spoke with the homeowners, William Schultea, 42, and Britney Campbell, 42, both of Livingston. As they searched the residence, they discovered the dead body of a gunshot victim later identified as James Michael McClanhan, 50, of Livingston. According to the release, a search warrant later discovered a large amount of drugs in the home.
Further investigation found that Schultea and two other suspects in the shooting, Derrek Hughes, 33, of Shelbyville, and David Stimmell, 50, of Trinity, also sustained gunshot wounds in the incident, the post said. Hughes and Stimmell were found later that night and taken to an area hospital for treatment. Another suspect, Steven Davis, was later located and arrested as well.
The sheriff’s office and Texas Rangers were able to find several witnesses who assisted in identifying suspects, they said.
Assisting agencies were listed as Polk County District Attorney’s Office, Texas Rangers Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Games Wardens Dive Teams, Onalaska Police Department, and the offices of Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Terri Mayer and Justice of the Peace Pct. 4 Jamie Richardson.
Stimmell was charged with murder, tampering with evidence and violating protective order, and was booked into the Polk County Jail on over $1 million total bonds. Davis was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon x4 with over $90,000 in bonds. Campbell was charged with possession of a controlled substance and bonded out for $30,000. Warrants for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance were issued for Schultea. Warrants for pardon and parole, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and failure to identify fugitive warrants were issued for Hughes.
