Sunderland have ‘agreed’ a deal to sign former Tottenham Hotspur youth prospect Romaine Mundle from Standard Liége. The 20-year-old made the switch from North London to Belgium on a free transfer last summer.
Mundle was attracting interest from several Championship clubs with Swansea City and Stoke City also linked with a move. However, Michael Beale’s side now looks set to secure the long-term future of the player in the January transfer window.
Speaking on his personal X account (formerly Twitter), journalist Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the deal. “Sunderland agree deal for the permanent transfer of Romaine Mundle from Standard Liége. Former Tottenham midfielder returns to England as he’s joining SAFC.”

Mundle has made six appearances for the Liége first team throughout the 2023/24 campaign but is yet to provide a goal or assist. Elsewhere, he has also featured for the U23 side, where he has netted two goals across his four outings.
The player now returns to England after rejecting a new contract at Spurs last summer. Former boss Antonio Conte had previously rewarded him with a call-up to the senior squad, where he was named on the bench on five different occasions in the Premier League. However, he failed to make an appearance for the first team.
