Former West Brom kitman Pat Frost has shared details of what Jed Wallace said to Ipswich Town fans as Daryl Dike was receiving treatment.
Dike pulled up 10 minutes after being introduced from the substitutes’ bench in Saturday’s (10 February) 2-2 draw at Portman Road.
Some Ipswich supporters showed little sympathy towards the United States international, leading to Wallace having a word.
“When DD was down the Ipswich fans who were sarcastically clapping,” Frost, now part of the England staff, posted on Twitter [11 February].
“Jed had a word with them and pretty much said come on folks be better than that and thankfully I think they obliged. Well done Jed.”
Daryl Dike’s growing list of injury woes
It must be said that it was only a minority of Ipswich fans who sarcastically applauded Dike after he went to ground.
The vast majority of them showed sympathy, no doubt fully aware of the American’s growing list of injury issues during his time in England.
The full extent of the damage is not yet known, but it is looking like another lengthy spell on the sidelines for the 23-year-old.
Once the seriousness of the situation became clear, the Ipswich fans gave Dike a round of applause as he made his way off the field.
Full credit to Wallace for having a word with the supporters in question. That is the sign of a proper leader.
The thoughts of everyone connected to West Bromwich Albion are now with Dike as he comes to terms with another possible long-term lay-off.
