This current West Ham squad is without a doubt one of the best teams they have ever had. While they are lacking in depth, the first XI are all sensational players on their day. In particular, their attack is one of the best in the league with Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta all complimenting each other perfectly.
Unfortunately, a club like West Ham is always going to struggle holding on to such special players and Paqueta in particular looks like he could be on his way out of East London in the Summer.
Ahead of the current campaign, Manchester City were keen on signing the Brazilian just a year after he joined the Hammers from Lyon. Their interest was put on hold though as the player was caught up in a betting scandal. When the Summer window opens, Manchester City are expected to reignite their interest alongside Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa, according to Claret and Hugh. However, all of those teams will only make a move for him if a verdict has been reached from the investigation into the suspicious betting activities.
It would be hard to imagine that Paqueta would want to move to Villa or Tottenham as it does not feel like a huge step up (although both teams could be playing in the Champions League next season) but if anyone activates his £85 million release clause, and he wishes to leave, then there is little our Irons can do.
