Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has publicly declared his interest in becoming Sunderland’s next manager.
The Black Cats sacked head coach Michael Beale after just 12 games in charge – following back-to-back Championship defeats – and they must find a fix now in order to get their season back on track, as per BBC Sport.
Beale replaced Tony Mowbray at the Stadium of Light, but his short reign has been a disaster with Sunderland winning just two of their 12 games under him.
A defeat to Birmingham City proved to be the nail in the coffin for Beale.
With Sunderland seeking a new manager, former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke has expressed his interest in taking the job after finishing his playing career with the club.
“I would just like the opportunity to manage Sunderland,” Yorke told Gambling Zone. “I’ve played for these clubs and it would be nice to go back to Sunderland, but it doesn’t mean that I’d rule out managing another club in the EFL. I have to be open-minded to the challenge I’d have to take on.”
Yorke spent four years at United as a player and scored 65 goals in 152 appearances as a Red. He was also a member of the famous 1999 treble-winning squad.
