Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted that he would rather see Ipswich Town win automatic promotion to the Premier League ahead of Leeds United this season.

Daniel Farke’s side currently sit second in the Championship, level on points with Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys who occupy third with only 13 matches left to play this season.

The Whites can move three points clear of Ipswich with a win over Leicester City on Friday (23 February), but Agbonlahor thinks Leeds’ unbeaten run will come to an end having been unimpressed with their previous style in the Premier League.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (22 February, 9:57) he said: “I think Leicester will win. I’d prefer it if Ipswich came up before Leeds because Leeds last season and the season before, I wasn’t too sure.

“Under Bielsa, they were losing 6-0 every game. It was like a basketball game. He was going man for man with Marcus Rashford and he had Luke Ayling at right-back.”

Can Leeds United win automatic promotion back to the Premier League?

Over the last few weeks, Leeds United seem to have leapfrogged Ipswich Town in most pundits and supporters’ predictions for automatic promotion as they continue to go from strength to strength under Farke’s management.

The Whites have shown that they can contend with any side that they face in England’s second tier, while the Tractor Boys have hit a few bumps in the road dropping points against Preston North End and West Brom.

Daniel Farke has Leeds United flying in the Championship

Farke has completely adapted Leeds’ style and the Whites now play a completely different brand of football to what supporters enjoyed under Marcelo Bielsa’s management, so it seems odd that Agbonlahor continues to hold that against United.

Hopefully, they will be able to prove the talkSPORT pundit wrong over the remainder of the season and against Leicester City on Friday night and make a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
