Junior Firpo was seen “visibly angry” after he was taken off by Daniel Farke in the Leeds United game against Leicester City on Friday (23 February), according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist tweeted after the 3-1 win over the Foxes that the Dominican left-back launched a water bottle to show his displeasure, but the Whites boss insisted he apologised straight away afterwards so there was no issue.

The German added that you have to “take decisions” as a manager and that he’s not at Elland Road to “win the Nobel Peace Prize”, with his side coming from behind to secure the three points after he replaced the 27-year-old.

Junior Firpo sub worked wonders for Leeds United

It was an inspired substitute from Farke to take Firpo off and replace him with Burnley loanee Connor Roberts, who found the equaliser within seven minutes of coming on.

The right-back’s arrival on the pitch also meant Archie Gray switched over to left-back in place of the Dominican and it was his deflected shot that led to the second Leeds goal.

While Firpo may have been frustrated to come off, which could have partly been down to his side being behind, he can’t argue that it wasn’t the right decision after the way the game panned out.

It doesn’t mean that the Whites are a better team without him, it just means that in that instance and with how the game was going, the other two fullbacks could provide something different to him.

It sounds as though the matter is already forgotten after he apologised to Farke and everyone can now move on after yet another hugely successful night at Elland Road.
