Despite only taking the Portugal job in January 2023, Martinez has been linked with one of the biggest jobs in European football.

According to Football Transfers, Barcelona have contacted the former Everton boss over the prospect of replacing Xavi as head coach in time for the 2024/25 season.

Xavi will leave the club at the end of the season after spending three years in charge of the Catalan giants.

The report claims there is no clear favourite for the job currently, with Rafa Marquez and Roberto De Zerbi linked.

Martinez is believed to have been approached with an initial one-year deal on the table. The Spaniard could take the role alongside his current position as Portugal’s head coach.
