Having him available will be crucial for Leicester City to maintain their lead in the Championship standings in the coming months.
Leicester City haven’t been able to call on the services of Ndidi at all in 2024. The midfielder last played in a 2-0 win over Cardiff City in the final game of 2023 and since then, a muscle injury has kept him out.
He missed AFCON as a result but has been working his way towards a return for the Championship run-in. Now, an encouraging update has emerged in his bid to get back to 100%.
Speaking prior to this weekend’s clash with QPR, manager Enzo Maresca revealed that Ndidi has started to join in with some parts of Leicester City’s training sessions. The hope is that he will be able to complete full sessions next week.
As quoted by Leicestershire Live, Maresca said on Ndidi:
“He already started to do part of the session with us. Next week, hopefully he can finish sessions with us. He’s a very important player for us.”
A big boost
While only back in light training, it marks a big step forward in Ndidi’s bid to return. If he can complete full sessions next week, it might not be long before the influential midfielder is back in action for Leicester City.
Following an extended spell out, Maresca and co will be sure to lean on the side of caution with his introduction back into the fold though. There are players who can feature while he gets back to 100%, so to avoid the risk of a new issue or re-injury, the Foxes will need to take time with Ndidi’s return.
When he is ready to go though, he’ll be a valuable figure in the Leicester City side. Prior to injury, the 27-year-old had managed four goals and six assists in 24 games across all competitions.
If Leicester City are to remain top of the Championship table over the final months, having Ndidi available will be of great use to them.
