RUMOR: The San Francisco 49ers are Interested in Bringing Back a Former Pro Bowl Offensive Lineman

The San Francisco 49ers had a decent offensive line this season, allowing 29 hurries (27th-most), 45 hits (20th), 108 pressures (28th), a 19.9% pressure percentage (20th), and 34 sacks (26th).

Despite these solid numbers, ProFootball Network ranked San Francisco’s offensive line as the 15th best in the league.

Trent Williams and Aaron Banks are considered locks for next season, meaning that the C, RG, and RT positions could be up for grabs, and the team could address those positions in free agency or through the draft.

There is a possibility San Francisco will reunite with a former Pro Bowl offensive lineman.

General manager John Lynch told reporters they plan on speaking with representatives for free agent Laken Tomlinson about potentially returning to San Francisco

“Laken was a big part of who we were,” Lynch explained. “We’ll talk to his folks and see what his temperature is, where he’s at.”

Tomlinson spent five seasons with San Francisco.

San Francisco traded a 2019 fifth-round pick to Detroit in exchange for Laken Tomlinson in 2017.

Tomlinson had a solid career with San Francisco. He started 80 out of 81 regular season games, averaging 4.8 penalties, 3.2 sacks, and a 70.66 PFF Grade in his five seasons.

His best season came in 2021 when he earned his first Pro Bowl.

Tomlinson spent 2022 and 2023 with New York.

The New York Jets signed Laken Tomlinson to a 3-year, $40 million contract in 2022.
