The Houston Texans’ defense improved from last season. They ranked 27th in points, 30th in yards, 32nd in rushing, and 19th in sacks in 2022 and ranked 11th in points, 14th in yards, 6th in rushing, and 14th in sacks in 2023.
With $70 million in cap space, Houston has many free agents this offseason and cannot afford to sign everyone. One free of their agents is their starting defensive tackle, which the team is interested in bringing back.
The Houston Texans are interested in re-signing one of their veteran defensive players.
According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, Houston and Sheldon Rankins have a “mutual interest” in working out a new deal.
“Texans and veteran defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, who recorded six sacks last season, have mutual interest, per sources, in working out a new deal with nothing imminent at this time. The Texans may keep their options open, though. The free agent class at defensive tackle is extremely deep.”
Rankins had a solid first season with Houston.
Houston signed Rankins to a 1-year, $9.5 million contract during the offseason.
