Tim Sherwood has said he is “shocked” by Leeds United promotion rivals Leicester City’s poor run of form recently.
The Sky Sports pundit has admitted he thought the Foxes would be over the line by now as they look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Before beaten Sunderland 1-0 thanks to Jamie Vardy’s goal on Tuesday night (5 March), the Foxes had lost three on the trot.
Daniel Farke’s side are currently competing at the top end of the Championship as they aim to go up as well.
The likes of Southampton and Ipswich Town are also up there ahead of the final couple of months of the season.
Sherwood has said on Sky Sports News (5 March, 07:38pm) “I want them in the Premier League because of their fan base. I really do. I think it’s incredible. I’m just shocked, I cannot believe Leicester are not over the line yet. I thought come April they would have been on their open top bus. How on earth have they not been promoted with that squad of players.”
Tim Sherwood’s Leeds United and Leicester City promotion verdict
Not many saw Leicester’s downturn in results coming. Even when they were playing badly, they were still getting points under Enzo Maresca.
However, now it appears teams have sussed them out and they have started to struggle in games. This would surely be the best team to fail to get promoted in the history of the Football League.
The Foxes’ downfall has been great for Leeds though as it makes them catchable. Farke’s side have been in decent form over recent times and are unbeaten in their last 10 league outings.
They were disappointed not to get the win away at Huddersfield Town last weekend, especially against 10 men in the second-half, but the main thing was that they didn’t lose.
In other Leeds news, they will hold talks with a key player at the end of the season.
