Hull City star Jacob Greaves has been linked with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur but the Toffees need to stay in the top-flight to sign him and Spurs’ interest has waned, as per Football Insider.
Hull City centre-back Greaves has been one of the Championship‘s standout defenders for some time now and links with the likes of Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are nothing new.
The Toffees are said to have been eyeing the 23-year-old as a potential replacement for sought-after star Jarrad Branthwaite. Spurs meanwhile are reported to have been alongside their Premier League rivals in keeping tabs on Greaves.
Now though, fresh claims over the top-flight duo’s interest have emerged from Football Insider.
They report that while Everton are strong admirers of the Hull City academy graduate, they will need to avoid a drop to the second-tier if they are to tempt Greaves to Merseyside in the summer.
On the Spurs links, it is said that while they were keen, their interest has waned since signing Radu Dragusin in the summer. His arrival means a summer move for another centre-back is less needed.
What will the summer hold?
Hull City are a highly ambitious club and given their desire to return to the Premier League, they’ll be keen to hold onto Greaves regardless of how this season ends. That could prove tricky if they remain in the second-tier though with the Cottingham-born defender’s only on the up.
As a young, English and left-footed centre-back, there will be clubs who view him as a real asset. Greaves’ high ceiling means he can only get better too, so striking a deal before he progresses even further is wise.
Any top-flight club in the market for another defender may well have him on their radar, so the Tigers could be in for a fight to retain his services.
