Jamie Vardy is expected to miss Leicester City’s FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea due to injury, manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed.
The news comes as a blow to City with the striker bang in form. He scored twice in the 2-2 draw against Hull City on Saturday.
Before that game, Maresca confirmed that he hadn’t been training in the build-up. The City boss has now confirmed that the striker has picked up a new injury which is expected to rule him out of the clash at Stamford Bridge.
Vardy will join Kasey McAteer, Ricardo Pereira and Dennis Praet on the sidelines. City will therefore have to choose between Patson Daka, Tom Cannon and Kelechi Iheanacho for the main striker role.
“It’s a not big issue and we have the international break,” the City boss added. “Kasey [McAteer] is the worst one, we are not sure if he’s back after the international break.”
One boost to City is the return of Wilfred Ndidi. The midfielder has featured in both of City’s last two matches after missing the last two months with injury, but Maresca has said that care will be taken in bringing him back into the action
He said: “We are trying to manage his situation [Ndidi]. He played 25 minutes vs Sunderland and 45 in the last game. We’ll see for Sunday’s game. With all the injured players, you have to be careful.”
