Dermot Gallagher 'Holocaust' reference causes embarrassment for Sky Sports | London Evening Standard | Evening Standard

Dermot Gallagher has delivered his verdict on two key incidents in Nottingham Forest v Brentford on Sunday. In the first half, the Bees appealed for handball twice in quick succession.

The man who spent many years referring in the Premier League was giving his verdict yesterday. The two flashpoints came when cameras appeared to show Nicolas Dominguez and Willy Boly handle in the box

After a short VAR check, both were considered to not be handball. VAR was Michael Oliver and he decided that neither of the decisions were worthy of Paul Tierney heading over to the screen for a look.

It would appear that the man who has been there and done it in the Premier League was having none of these two incidents. He doesn’t feel that Dominguez or Boly committed a handball offence.

He told Ref Watch on Sky Sports News: “I’m not sure the first one struck his hand, the second one, no penalty. Neither are penalties for me. The Boly one hits his arm it’s by his side, not for me.”

Both incidents would have been very harsh from a Forest perspective. Although the ball did clearly strike the hands of Dominguez and Boly there was absolutely no deliberate act.

Bad week for VAR but Forest won’t mind

The stuff that happened in the VAR box for Tottenham v Liverpool on Saturday night was inconceivable. Darren England was supposed to be the fourth man at Forest on Sunday but after his error, he was stood down

It would seem as though things weren’t quite rosy for the Forest game either. Yoane Wissa appeared to be denied what looked like a stonewall penalty when Matt Turner blatantly kicked him in the second half.

There are lots of issues with the technology that the PGMOL and the Premier League need to iron out now. VAR isn’t fit for purpose right now and hopefully, the powers that be can act.
