Leicester City and Leeds United are set to miss out on Juventus’ Koni De Winter, with the centre-back set to move to his current loan club Genoa permanently according to Tutto Mercato Web.
Leicester City and Leeds United could both be playing in the Premier League next season and so those behind the scenes will likely be drawing up targets for whether they achieve promotion or remain in the Championship.
They sit in the automatic promotion spots in the table as things stand and are level on points. Although their priorities will be finishing the season strongly to bounce back to the top flight at the first time of asking, attentions could soon turn to the summer transfer window.
One player both clubs were eyeing was promising young Juventus defending De Winter. The 21-year-old has made just two appearances for his current side but has been impressing out on loan at fellow Serie A side Genoa
According to Tutto Mercato Web, both the Foxes and the Whites hold an interest in De Winter, but he needs to make just one more appearance for Genoa for the defender to sign permanently at his current loan club, meaning the Championship duo will miss out.
A blow for Leicester and Leeds
De Winter could have been a player who could easily make the step up to the Premier League and thrive in that division. Given his age and potential he is one that could’ve been a long-term fixture in the first-team fold.
However, given he is plying his trade in Italy with Genoa and the clause allows them to sign him for €8m after a certain amount of games played, it was always going to be difficult to prize him away.
