The newspaper reported in its print edition on Sunday (31 March, page 54) that the 38-year-old, who has impressed in several positions in the Premier League this season, is eager to play until he is 40 at least.

Young’s one-year deal expires at the end of the season, but the former Manchester United man is open to signing new terms with the Toffees or moving elsewhere on a free transfer to continue his playing career.

Young hasn’t been perfect for Everton this season and the veteran has come under some criticism from a number of supporters and pundits alike this term for occasionally showing his age, particularly in the bigger games. In Profile: Ashley Young

Against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby this term, the 38-year-old looked massively off of the pace as he was repeatedly tormented by Luis Diaz before being sent off for a reckless challenge in the opening 45 minutes.
