Everton veteran Ashley Young is ready to sign a new deal to extend his stay at Goodison Park beyond the end of the season, according to Sunday People.
The newspaper reported in its print edition on Sunday (31 March, page 54) that the 38-year-old, who has impressed in several positions in the Premier League this season, is eager to play until he is 40 at least.
Young’s one-year deal expires at the end of the season, but the former Manchester United man is open to signing new terms with the Toffees or moving elsewhere on a free transfer to continue his playing career.
Will Ashley Young sign a new contract with Everton or complete a summer transfer switch?
Young hasn’t been perfect for Everton this season and the veteran has come under some criticism from a number of supporters and pundits alike this term for occasionally showing his age, particularly in the bigger games.
Against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby this term, the 38-year-old looked massively off of the pace as he was repeatedly tormented by Luis Diaz before being sent off for a reckless challenge in the opening 45 minutes.
