Blackburn RoversĀ are going to struggle to keep hold of their top scorer Sammie Szmodics this summer, as interest from Premier League relegation-threatened Luton Town mounts.

The recently-capped Republic of Ireland international has been in fine form this season, firing in 23 goals and leading the division’s goalscoring charts. Despite his goals, however, Blackburn still remain in the race against relegation, lying just four points from safety.

With a drop in division still looming, and having had a stellar season for the Lancashire club, Szomodics may look to move on amid the rumoured interest, which has beenĀ reported by Alan Nixon this morning via his Patreon.

Luton Town increase interest in Blackburn Rovers attacker Sammie Szmodics

As revealed by the football journalist, the Hatters are keen on making the move for Szmodics, regardless of the division they end up playing in next season.

They recently sent club scout David Moss to watch over the attacker, and he could add a different dynamic to Rob Edwards’ attacking unit whether that is in the Premier League or the Championship.

With the Irishman topping the charts for goals this season, Blackburn will most likely demand a hefty fee in order to help replace their main man.

However, Luton shouldn’t be too concerned with the finances of the deal as, if they are unlucky enough to experience Premier League relegation, parachute payments will see them flush with cash, and if they do stave off the drop, Premier League money will still be coursing through their veins, and they could look to strike an easy deal.
