A bad start for the White Sox just got worse.

Chicago, which enters Monday’s game against Cleveland with a 1-8 record, will be will without star outfielder Luis Robert Jr. for several weeks after he suffered a Grade 2 right hip flexor strain against the Royals on Friday.

The injury came after he rounded first base following a double against reliver Will Smith. He immediately began hopping on one leg in obvious discomfort.

“You prepare yourself to be in good condition, good shape to play every day and you’re doing everything right,” Robert said through his interpreter. “Then, when something like this happens, it’s frustrating. You start second guessing why, try to find an explanation why.

“If you’re doing everything you’re supposed to do to stay healthy and you can’t, it’s very frustrating. That’s the worst part. Mentally, it’s tough.”

Robert, a Gold Glove winner in 2020 made his first All-Star team in 2023. He was placed on the injured list on Saturday and is expected to be out a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks, according to Chicago Sun-Times reporter Daryl Van Schouwen.

There is concern within the organization that Robert’s absence could last longer, possibly three to four months, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
