The Chicago White Sox, currently struggling with a 3-18 record and a meager 45 runs scored this season, find themselves at the bottom of the Major League Baseball standings. Amid their woes, even the team’s announcers are exploring unconventional avenues to improve the club’s fortunes.
Following a pitch clock violation by Nola, longtime color commentator Steve Stone quipped, “Well, that’s terrible. I believe you should trade him after the game for that violation. Trade him to the Sox.” His jest was met with amusement from play-by-play man John Schriffen, who chimed in, “We would definitely take him.”
The humorous exchange didn’t end there. Earlier in the inning, outfielder Brandon Marsh’s fielding blunder drew attention as he mistakenly threw the ball into the crowd after catching a flyout, erroneously thinking it was the third out.
Reflecting on the mishap, Schriffen remarked, “We need some of those breaks to go our way. Can he do that when there are runners on base?”
Stone, drawing on his extensive experience in baseball since his 1971 debut with the San Francisco Giants, attempted to reassure Schriffen and White Sox fans, suggesting, “Eventually, you have to figure the luck will turn around.”
