On Friday night, in the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 win over the San Francisco Giants, star shortstop Trea Turner made an electric running play in the bottom of the fourth inning. After reaching base on a single to right field with two outs, Turner promptly stole second to get himself into scoring position for Bryce Harper.

Then, this happened:

Giants catcher Tom Murphy, who entered the game after starting catcher Patrick Bailey had to leave the game earlier with blurred vision in the second inning, was a bit lacklustre in pursuing the passed ball he just had just given up. In doing so, it allowed Turner to aggressively turn on the jets and speed all the way home from second on a close sliding play at home plate.

The Giants challenged the call, but the original safe call was upheld. The bang-bang play put the Phillies up 4-2. The exciting scoring feat by Turner, which scored the eventual game-winning run, will no doubt be shown in highlight reels for years to come.

However, the amazing play came at a potentially huge cost. Turner was later removed from the game in the top of the fifth inning in favor of Edmundo Sosa due to what the Phillies called left hamstring soreness, per MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki.

Looking back at the replay, Turner does walk slowly back to the dugout after getting up from his slide at home. Unfortunately, the apparent injury resulted from his daring scoring play.
