The agent of Watford’s Yaser Asprilla has responded to a specific question regarding transfer interest from Leicester City.

Colombian international Asprilla completed a £2.5m switch from boyhood club Envigado to the Hornets in January 2022. He has since gone on to make 86 appearances in English football as an attacking midfielder, scoring eight goals and providing 10 assists.

Back in his native land, this level of experience for someone still only 20 years of age is causing some excitement, and so the player has been linked with the step up to the Premier League – in particular newly-promoted City. However, when asked on local channel Caracol Radio about the potential move, the player’s agent Jonathan Restrepo has squashed the idea of any rapid developments.

“No one has contacted from Leicester,” he confirmed. “There is interest from other Premier clubs and other European countries.

Also questioned about Premier League runners-up Arsenal, he added: “Arsenal have never asked me a question. These are things that the media is putting out.”

This is certainly an interesting development as a new name thrown into the Foxes’ transfer sphere, as it is one they could hold the upper hand with in negotiations should they come to happen. This is because firstly, Asprilla’s contract at Vicarage Road is due to expire next summer.

Enzo Maresca has played down any possibility of a major summer transfer haul given the club’s financial situation, however he has also previously stated any outgoing players must be replaced.

According to Fbref.com, in the recent second tier campaign Asprilla ranked eighth in the entire division for average shot creation actions per 90 minutes, and placed in the 90th percentile among midfielders for progressive carries, successful take-ons, progressive passes received and touches in the penalty area.
