Maresca was part of a shortlist but emerged as the first-choice candidate after being interviewed for the head coach role.
Maresca is set to inherit a squad that achieved a sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season under Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues finished the campaign with five successive victories to ensure European football for the 2024/25 campaign.

Sesko signs
Chelsea are big admirers of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig ahead of the summer window. football.london understands the Blues watched the 20-year-old striker on numerous occasions last term and were impressed with what they witnessed.
Sesko has a contract at the Red Bull Arena that runs until the summer of 2028 after making the common move from RB Salzburg to Leipzig less than 12 months ago. The Slovenian forward scored an impressive 18 goals in all competitions throughout the 2023/24 campaign in what was his debut season in Germany.
