Texas Rangers v Minnesota TwinsThe Texas Rangers have traded pitcher Shaun Anderson to the Miami Marlins for cash considerations, the team announced today.

Anderson, 29, was signed by the Rangers in mid-April to help fortify the pitching staff at Round Rock. He was brought up in mid-May when the Rangers needed a multi-inning option in the major league bullpen, and ended up appearing in two games for the Rangers. He was designated for assignment on May 26 when the Rangers needed to open up a roster spot for Gerson Garabito, who started against the Minnesota Twins that day.Texas Rangers v Minnesota Twins

The interesting thing is that the Marlins traded for Anderson, despite the fact that they are second in waiver priority, behind only the Chicago White Sox. It would seem to suggest the Marlins felt there was enough potential interest in Anderson to warrant making a deal for Anderson instead of simply waiting for him to appear on waivers and putting in a claim.
