Frank McAvennie believes that somebody at West Ham United has convinced David Sullivan that Luis Guilherme is “the messiah”.
The 18-year-old Brazilian is reportedly closing in on a £25million to the Hammers [BBC Sport] with Nosso Palestra reporting that he’s been released by Palmeiras to have a medical.
And McAvennie – speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone – feels the size of the fee is an indication that the club have “done their homework” on the player.
“It’s an exciting deal [for Guilherme],” McAvennie said.
“I know David Sullivan and I know how he deals and he must have done some work on this boy, he must have done his homework on him. Because for David Sullivan to spend £20-25m on a player that is unknown, really, and we don’t know if he’s going to work in the Premier League – somebody’s convinced him that he’s the messiah.
“Because for David to spend that kind of money – normally you’d want them to come over on loan, see what he looks like and all that kind of stuff. I know football’s changed, but Mr Sullivan won’t have changed. He doesn’t mind spending money, I’ll give him that – but it’s always got to be right.
