Nottingham Forest have reportedly won the race against West Ham United to sign Carlos Miguel.
According to UOL journalist Bruno Andrade, the Reds are signing the Corinthians goalkeeper on a five-year contract.
Both Nottingham Forest and West Ham had been keen on triggering the player’s €4m release clause, so the decision was in the player’s hands.
Andrade points out it now remains to be seen whether Carlos Miguel will keep playing for Corinthians until July, when the transfer window opens, or if he’ll sort out the move now.
There’s some anger at the Brazilian club right now because of the timing of this transfer.
For years, Corinthians had club legend Cássio as their goalkeeper. With him making some mistakes recently, fans and club thought it was time for Carlos Miguel to have a chance.
He got his first opportunities and kept the place, with Cássio being sold to Cruzeiro. Now Carlos Miguel decides to leave as well, making it a very frustrating situation.
The €4m release clause had been agreed when he was still a back-up player with few chances to overcome a club legend. Now Nottingham Forest take advantage of a very complex scenario.
