Although the summer transfer window doesn’t officially open until July 1, it appears that West Ham United have already been trying to get well ahead of their rivals.
The East Londoners perhaps have the memories of 12 months ago fresh in their minds and don’t want a repeat.
On that occasion, a protracted transfer for Declan Rice to Arsenal meant that the club didn’t get any business done until the week of the first game of the 2023/24 season.
West Ham zeroing in on Luis Guilherme
It’s believed that this is because the club wanted to use the bulk of the Rice money to pay for any new incoming signings, rather than have chairman, David Sullivan, put his hand in his pocket.
This time around, with Tim Steidten seemingly calling the shots and Julen Lopetegui getting ready for what is hoped to be a hugely exciting time at the London Stadium, the club seem to be going all out to get players in double quick.
With a deal for Fabricio Bruno appearing to slip through their fingers, the last thing Steidten needs is for a similar ending to the Guilherme story.
However, Fabrizio Romano‘s latest update should please Hammers fans.
“West Ham have been busy in the transfer market and Luis Guilherme is really close, I’d say one step away,” he said to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing.
“We have to wait for the medical and contract signing, but the agreement with Palmeiras for €30m package is done.
