The Italian, who led the Foxes to the Championship title and back into the Premier League at the first time of asking, has since left to take over at Stamford Bridge.

That has left City looking for a new boss, with Graham Potter, Steve Cooper and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan all linked. The Sun added Solskjaer to that list and say the former Manchester United player and manager could be set for a ‘sensational Premier League return’.

The Norwegian has not held a management post since he left United in November 2021 – having steered the Red Devils to two top four finishes and within a penalty shoot-out of the Europa League.

Indeed he has stayed out of the spotlight until relatively recently when he was linked with the vacancy at Turkish outfit Besiktas and with the Canada national team.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manager of Manchester United reacts during the Premier League match between Leicester City and Manchester United at The King Power Stadium on October 16, 2021 in Leicester, England.

He appears to have taken his time picking his next job having had an unhappy time with Cardiff City in his first role in the UK. He laid out his parameters in The Athletic in September 2023, his first in depth interview since leaving Old Trafford.

He expressed his desire to manage again, saying: “Yes, and I’ve had offers. Most recently, two from Saudi Arabia. My best mate, who is also my agent, sifts through them. If you’ve managed Man United, you put your own criteria about what you want to work with.
