Newcastle United have bid £16million for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, according to reports.
It has been no secret that Eddie Howe is eyeing a new shot-stopper to rival Nick Pope for the No.1 jersey. The Magpies suffered between the sticks last season, with Martin Dubravka failing to impress following Pope’s lengthy shoulder injury.
Loris Karius is also set to leave on a free transfer once his contract expires this month – leaving a goalkeeping spot available. Many expected Newcastle to sign a veteran keeper who would be willing to watch on from the sidelines.
However, The Daily Mail claim Toon chiefs have tabled a £16million offer for Trafford. The 21-year-old almost made England’s squad for Euro 2024, missing out after making the provisional setup.
