One of Liverpool and Everton’s Premier League rivals are set to lose one of their key players

Liverpool and Everton’s Premier League rivals Aston Villa are close to completing an agreement with Juventus for the sale of key midfielder Douglas Luiz with Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior set to move the other way.

The Old Lady will also offer cash as part of the deal to get Luiz to Allianz Stadium. The Brazil international has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs with reports earlier this year claiming Villa put a £100m price tag on his head amid interest to Arsenal.

It is claimed Villa still want £50m for the player, along with McKennie and Iling-Junior. Villa reached the Champions League after finishing fourth behind Liverpool last season but need to stay on the right side or profit and sustainability regulations after the club reported a loss of £119.6m in their latest accounts up to 31 May 2023.

A statement on the loss read: “The owners of Aston Villa remain committed to the long-term and sustainable development of the club, and we look forward to continued progress on the delivery of our strategic plan.”
